Post looking to breed my pea puffers
ok so i just picked up 4 of these guys from my LPS still young so cant really sex them just yet! right now they are in my 55g community tank which is full of guppies that i love cause they feed my rhinogobius yao., blue badis, keyhole cichlids and half beaks with my live food! i got live cultures of banana worms micro worms walter woms and daphia. oh yes im prepared! since my main intention is to breed bettas but these little guys always caught my eyes! tanks and space i also have plenty off so throw me any ideas i got 6 20g and 3 30g.

ok now i been reading the forum my question is one these guys lay there eggs can i just remove the parents and toss them back in my 55g? also some pointers and recommendations on what should i have in tanks. i can provide spawning mops(since they are so cheap) i have hornwort idk even know what to do with. have some java moss, marimo moss balls, frill and some potted plants. i use aquaclear filters and attach a sponge to the intake so nothing jams up my filter! or slips in my filter.

well i also have a camera and time on my hands so what ever ideas you guys have i can put them to work upload pics of progress and we can all experiment with these little critters.

Once they start spawning, they may continually spawn.
I'd recommend setting up two 20 gallon tanks, preferably with 1 male two females each, with a ton of java moss but a bare bottom. every two days or so, more often if you see spawning, siphon out all the eggs from the bottom along with all the detritus, and add to a set up 30 gallon. As hatched puffers get big enough to eat tiny baby puffers, move them to the other 30 gallon, and when those get big enough to sell, move them to the final 30 gallon. If you find you have 3 males and 3 females, do them in pairs in 3 twenty gallon tanks. If you want to be really precise about sorting babies, you can add many tanks of intermediate size, starting with the other 20's for the eggs and smallest babies, then graduating them up to the 30 gallons. These are not "single action" spawners like bettas or cichlids; if they decide to start, they will likely continually breed and you will be ever farming and sorting babies.

Use a siphon tube into a bucket, and suck anything from the bottom of the tank out. Add the entire contents to the hatching tank - the detritus will contain infusoria which will feed the baby puffers for the first days past their yolk sack. Running a sponge filter in the hatching and small-fry tanks is better than a power filter. It also contains infusoria and can't hurt fry.
